As my first feature film, I’m delighted to and very proud to help bring Gypsy Boy to life on the big screen. Mikey is an incredible writer and a wonderful living and breathing source of material – we can’t wait to tell his inspirational, sincere and heartfelt story. Mikey and I have been developing this film together with BBC Films for the last few years. This is something Mikey knows only too well. After centuries of persecution, Gypsies are wary of outsiders, and if you choose to leave you can never come back. They live in a secluded community, and little is known about their way of life. The 2010 best selling Gypsy Boy and Gypsy Boy: On The Run, are two autobiographies which tell the story of Walsh’s life growing up in the Romany Community during the 80s and 90s in England.ĭee Koppang O’Leary says: “I’ve known Mikey since we were teenagers, and I was instantly fascinated by his life story. An Eye-Opening Memoir of Growing Up Gypsy Mikey Walsh was born into a Romany Gypsy family. Produced by Dee Koppang and directed by Morgan Matthews, the film is scheduled to start production in the summer next year.
